In Game 2, the Minnesota Timberwolves not only defeated the Denver Nuggets but also humiliated them. Minnesota’s fierce defense led to a 106-80 demolition, which gave the Wolves a decisive 2-0 series lead and sent the Nuggets into a tailspin of frustration.
From the first tip, the Wolves sucked the life out of Denver’s offensive. Every Nuggets possession became a nightmare due to the team’s unwavering pressure on the ball, flawless switching, and unrelenting help defense. Minnesota’s domination was solidified during their stifling second-quarter stretch, during which they kept Denver scoreless for almost four minutes. They had a commanding 61-35 lead at the half.
The absence of Minnesota’s defensive pillar, Rudy Gobert, who missed the game due to the birth of his kid, highlighted the excellence of this defensive effort. The Wolves’ unwavering intensity, however, paid off as they managed an incredible 12 blocks and 11 steals.
Jamal Murray’s tantrum and Nuggets coach Michael Malone’s furious altercation with an official during the first quarter highlighted the team’s collapse. Even with Gordon’s heroic 20 points, Nikola Jokic (16 points) was limited by the Wolves.
The offensive execution from Minnesota was equally impressive. Leading the way were Karl-Anthony Towns (27 points) and Anthony Edwards (27 points), with Kyle Anderson doing admirably in Gobert’s absence. Another standout was Naz Reid’s offensive punch off the bench and his oppressive defense.
This was a declaration rather than just a victory. The Wolves showed a level of defensive focus and energy that might make them an unbeatable force, and they are still unbeaten in the playoffs. A big question looms as the series moves to Minneapolis: can the Nuggets muster a comeback to avoid a series sweep, or have they already been broken?
