In a crucial Game 3 matchup with the Boston Celtics on Saturday, the Indiana Pacers’ aspirations are tempered by the fact that their star point guard Tyrese Haliburton is listed as questionable because of tightness in his left hamstring.
With the injury, Haliburton left Game 2 in the third quarter, casting doubt on his availability for the rest of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Pacers are now behind 2-0 in the series, so losing their main creator would be disastrous.
Haliburton tried to play through the injury despite complaining of hamstring trouble since halftime, according to coach Rick Carlisle. Sadly, it turned out to be too much, and he had to quit the game.
The Pacers’ lineup would be severely lacking without Haliburton. Despite playing fewer minutes in Game 2, he was still able to contribute 10 points and 8 assists before he left the game. He had been crucial in Game 1, scoring 25 points and dishing out 10 assists.
For Haliburton, the hamstring injury is especially worrying because he missed ten games earlier in the season due to a similar problem. Though the Pacers will be hoping for a speedy recovery, it’s unclear if he’ll play in Game 3.
In the meantime, the Celtics will be hoping to take advantage of the Pacers’ probable bad luck and take a decisive 3-0 lead in the series. Certainly, their mission would be easier without Haliburton.
Updates on Haliburton’s condition will be eagerly anticipated by Pacers supporters. Whether or whether the team’s top guard is available could determine their prospects of pulling off an unlikely comeback.
